About Overhaul Prep
The short version: Overhaul Prep is a small, independent study site for ASE, EVT and EPA 609 certification exams, run by Kyle Hedlund in Kentucky. Every question is original. The free trial needs no card and never turns into a charge, and a subscription cancels in one click.
Who runs it
Overhaul Prep is built and run by Kyle Hedlund, a working technician. It is a one-person business, so when you email, the reply comes from the person who wrote the site.
It started as a study set for the ASE medium and heavy truck tests and grew to cover the EVT fire apparatus, ambulance and ARFF exams, which had almost no practice material anywhere.
What it is, and what it is not
- Practice questions for 81 certification tests — ASE, EVT, EPA 609, and engine-specific banks for Cummins and Detroit — 13,972 questions, each with a written explanation of why the answer is right.
- Every question is original. None is copied from a real certification exam. Real exam questions are confidential; a site selling them is selling cheating, and this one does not.
- Independent. Overhaul Prep is not affiliated with or endorsed by ASE, the EVT Certification Commission, the U.S. EPA, the NFPA, Cummins Inc. or Detroit Diesel. Their names appear only to say which test a question prepares you for.
- Free to look at first. The ten-question sample and every study guide are free to read, with no account.
How the questions are written and corrected
Questions are written to the published task lists and learning objectives for each test, and to the standards those name. The bank is re-checked against those sources on an ongoing basis, and the review has corrected answer keys and explanations along the way — including the 2024 NFPA renumbering, when 1901 and 1911 became 1900 and 1910.
If you find a question you think is wrong, email support@overhaulprep.app with the test and the question. It gets checked against the source and corrected.
How billing works
- The free trial needs no credit card and does not convert to a paid plan on its own. When it ends, access pauses until you choose to subscribe. You are never charged automatically from a trial.
- Plans: $16.99/month, $149.99/year, or $12.99/seat/month for a shop or department. Paid plans renew automatically until you cancel.
- Cancel anytime, in one click, from your account page. Cancelling stops future charges; your access continues to the end of the period you have already paid for. There are no refunds for partial billing periods.
- Payments go through Stripe. Your card number never reaches Overhaul Prep's servers.
- Delete your account yourself, any time, from your account page — what deletion covers.

Is Overhaul Prep a real business?
Yes. It is a small independent business run by Kyle Hedlund in Kentucky, taking subscriptions through Stripe. Every page carries its contact addresses, and the Terms and Privacy Policy name who operates it.
Are these real exam questions?
No. Every question is original and written for Overhaul Prep. Real certification exam questions are confidential, and none are copied, sold or presented as real.
